No longer shall we hold onto brown vintage furniture, let us distress and antique the beauti’s
This gorgeous detailed table was found in the op shop longing for a loving home. I bought her for $15 and carted her home…
So begins the distressing. Distressing gives the piece a worn and aged look. Giving the piece a story and showing where the piece would natural age and wear. I love distressing a piece but I prefer to call it antiquing because of my need for perfection I tend to give the pieces less of a distressed look. Here I painted her with two coats of wheatfield white. Distressed lightly with sandpaper and finally made a staining medium using half coffee brown paint and half water sponged in and brushed into corners.
Let us turn this tired table into a vibrant table to keep with the times
A friend of mine was moving overseas and giving away some of her furniture. I saw this table and instantly longed for it. I saw him younger and fresher so off to the material shop I went. I saw a baby blue vinyl I could instantly see him in and this is the after shot…
Sanded down and three coats of white and hes new baby blue vinyl attire. Silver goes beautifully with blue. When arranging home accessory’s use blue and silver together.
Do you have a lot of nail polish? How about turn a spice rack into a nail polish rack…
This was so much fun. Each section of this piece was divided using painters tape. Each time the paint dried I would move the tape to start on the next section. I painted strips, leopard print, zebra print and gold and red. All to inspire the next nail color.
Do you have a plain boring chest in need of a makeover?
How about turning it into this? Get rid of the brown and distress it, antique it and stencil it…
I am yet to sell this piece. She is my favorite. I spent hours painting her and put all my effort into making her look like a timeless piece. Using light brush strokes and sponging to soften the results was wonderful. I find it hard to part with this piece and I will keep it to add to my made over room.
Decoration is really about creating a quality of life, and a beauty in that life that nourishes the soul, that makes life beautiful. That’s what all this is about, not just what’s in and what’s out.
